Former child star Shirley Temple is dead at 85.

The actress, who was known throughout her adult life as Shirley Temple Black, died of natural causes yesterday in her California home.

Her family released a statement that reads, "We salute her for a life of remarkable achievements as an actor, as a diplomat, and most importantly as our beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and adored wife for fifty-five years of the late and much missed Charles Alden Black."

Temple was well-known for her roles in 1930s films such as "Bright Eyes," "Curly Top," and "Heidi."  She captivated the public in four major box office draws before the age of ten.
