NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) _ A police official says an SUV collided with a train in Tennessee after trying to beat it across the tracks, sending five juveniles to the hospital.

Metro Police Capt. Chris Taylor was quoted by The Tennessean newspaper as saying that the vehicle flipped twice after it was struck Saturday evening, but no one was ejected.

Taylor told the newspaper that the driver and four passengers were all sent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He said two of the passengers had critical injuries, and the other two had severe injuries, while the driver's injuries were minor.

The newspaper added that officials with CSX railroad were on the scene late Saturday night investigating.
