MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) _ A Middle Tennessee woman has pleaded guilty in connection with the deaths of her two children, who were left inside a hot car.
Samantha Harper of Smyrna pleaded guilty Wednesday in Rutherford County Circuit Court to two counts of attempted aggravated child neglect, and Judge Keith Siskin sentenced her to eight years on each count to be served concurrently. The clerk's office said she is required to serve 30 percent of the sentence, but would have to serve the full sentences consecutively if she violates conditions of her release.
Harper was charged with felony murder and aggravated child neglect after the Aug. 2, 2012, deaths of 3-year-old Daniel Marise and 2-year-old Savannah Marise in her car outside the family's home. Harper was accused of putting the children in the car, then going back inside and falling asleep.
