CODE RED: Snowfall, wintry mix possible in parts of Middle Tennessee

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--FOX 17 News and the SKYWatch 17 weather team have issued a CODE RED alert for a wintry mix this week as snow could accumulate in parts of Middle Tennessee.

Thanks to temperatures well below the average this time of year, the possibility for precipitation and winter weather arrives Thursday.

Temps will start off in the morning above freezing with just rainfall expected in the Nashville area. However, some snow could accumulate in the morning over the Tennessee River Valley and to the west.

As the day progresses, colder air will follow the precipitation, changing to a wintry mix in Middle Tennessee by the afternoon and into the morning.

Nashville and the immediate areas shouldn't expect much, if any accumulation, but there should be snowfall and roads will be slick for the Thursday night commute.

Normal highs this time of year are typically in the low 60s. Currently the midstate is experiencing highs in the lower 40s.
