Accused murderer Kirby Wallace captured after 7-day manhunt

INDIAN MOUND, Tenn. (WZTV) — A Tennessee fugitive wanted in two murders, home invasions and arson has been captured.

TBI Top 10 Most Wanted Kirby Wallace was taken into custody Friday following an exhaustive manhunt by the FBI, TBI, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office, THP, TWRA, Tennessee National Guard and Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators searched Montgomery and Stewart counties by air and ground for Wallace. Residents were advised to remain inside and stay vigilant during the manhunt. The search launched last Friday when authorities named Wallace the suspect in the Indian Mound murder.

Two sightings of a man with a gun were reported early Wednesday morning along Poplar Springs Road as the search for the accused killer intensified. Another sighting late Thursday night was reported in Stewart County, shifting the manhunt to that area.

String of Violent Crimes:

•9/23: Deadly home invasion in Indian mound. A woman was killed and man hurt after their home was set on fire in Stewart County. Teddy Smith is alive after the September 23rd attack, but his wife died after Wallace allegedly tied her up and lit the house on fire.

•9/27: Forced an 80-year-old woman into her home and tied her up and stole her car in Stewart County

•10/1: Deadly morning shooting along Welker Road in Montgomery County. The victim was a male.
