Republican Bill Lee projected to win Tennessee's governor race

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WZTV) — Republican businessman Bill Lee is projected to be Tennessee’s next governor, replacing outgoing GOP Gov. Bill Haslam.

Lee beat democratic candidate and former Nashville Mayor Karl Dean.

Lee, who has had several roles at the family-run “Lee Company,” is a native Tennessean who echoes what he says residents want; good jobs, good schools and safe neighborhoods.

Lee Company employs more than 1,200 individuals with annual revenues of $215 million. He attended Williamson County Schools and studied mechanical engineering at Auburn University.

Lee, who has four adult children, currently lives in Franklin with his wife on the family farm.

Here’s what Lee stands for:

On Guns: Lee says he would take away fees for permit carry. “It’s a right, now a privilege.”

State Income Tax: Does not support a state income tax for Tennessee.

Lee went on to say that Tennessee is prosperous because that state has low taxes, which brings people to the Volunteer State. Lee said because of low taxes, Tennessee has built a "really strong economy."

"Raising taxes isn't the right way to stimulate an economy," Lee said.

On Honesty: "I'm a businessman...Our integrity depends on our honesty with our employees and with our customers."

On Medical Marijuana Legalization: Bill thinks low-THC CBD oils should be first looked at address “issues,” according to his campaign.
