Middle TN mom gives birth on side of road thanks to 'Angel' police officer

NASHVILLE, Tenn.--One of Tennessee's newest residents entered the world thanks to the help of a Dickson Police Officer.

Bridgette Crumley, her husband, 3-year-old son, and mother-in-law were on their way to the hospital early Tuesday morning to deliver the new addition when the unexpected happened.

"We were heading to the hospital when she just started coming out. My water didn't even break," Bridgette says.

Driving down Highway 46 at two in the morning, the family pulled over by a car dealership and called 911 for help. "It was scary," Bridgette tells FOX 17 News. "They (family in car) were saying someone is gonna have to catch the baby. My mother -in-law was praying and that's when then she showed up like an angel."

That angel is Officer Sierra Reprogal with the Dickson Police Department. Bridgette says she was the first on scene and quickly helped the now mother of three.

"When she arrived the baby was half out," Bridgette says. "I remember her walking up, looking at me then looking at the baby and just going to work like she had done this before. She never left my sight and just started to grab and pull while I pushed."

Once the baby was delivered, Officer Reprogal continued to make sure the baby was safe. "She broke the sac, put her on me, made sure she was breathing and wrapped her in a blanket," Bridgette says.

EMS arrived on scene and cut the umbilical cord off the child before transporting the new mom and baby to the hospital. "It was scary at first before she (Reprogal) showed up because you don't know what's gonna happen, if the baby is gonna be okay. If she didn't show up I don't know what we were gonna do. My mother-in-law's prayers were answered," Bridgette said.

The experience was one Officer Reprogal also considers "one of the best things I've ever done or been a part of." Reprogal shared a photo of Bridgette, the new baby and herself on Facebook, praising how well Bridgette did under the circumstances and calling both "unbelievably strong!"

Officer Sierra Reprogal's help has also tied her and the little baby together forever in name too. Bridgette originally planned on naming her daughter Isabella Marie Crumley. But after Tuesday's ordeal, she decided to name her Isabella Sierra-Marie Crumley in honor of the officer.
