Nashville International Women's Day Goes Virtual in 2021

March is Women's History Month, a time of reflecting on and learning about all of the amazing achievements and contributions women have made to society. As women around the world celebrate International Women's Day on Monday (March 8), a group in Nashville is preparing to hold its annual event focusing on women's accomplishments. While the event is typically held in person, for the first time, this year's event is being held virtually due to the ongoing pandemic and public gathering restrictions.

"The last 3 years we have been hosting the event at the Parthenon and our focus is 100 percent women's achievement," said Lissette Delgado-Fitzgerald, with International Women's Day-Nashville.

While it's an unfortunate product of 2021 that the event can't be held in person, the silver lining is that it gives Nashville the opportunity to reach individuals outside of the state. According to News Channel 5, Nashville organizers are partnering with those in Cincinnati to livestream the four-hour broadcast of the event.

"The pandemic changed how we do it but we [are] moving forward nonetheless," said Delgado-Fitzgerald.

The event will include discussions on many topics, such as gender equality, social justice, and immigration, and will include pre-recorded interviews as well as live appearances and performances.

If you can't watch the event in real time, don't worry. A full recording of the event will be available to watch in a few weeks. To keep up with updates and for more information, check the event's website.
