Two teens were arrested after multiple shots were fired outside a Nashville area school on Tuesday afternoon (September 7).

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, a 15-year-old boy from La Vergne fired three rounds into the parking lot at La Vergne High School during dismissal, per FOX 17. An 18 year old, later identified as Damondre Hayes of Smyrna, was reportedly also involved in the incident.

"There were a number of children in the parking lot," said Detective Jamin Humphress. "One vehicle was hit in the school parking lot but no one was struck."

The news outlet reports that a school resource officer located the suspects' vehicle and discovered two firearms. After receiving a tip about their location, the two teen suspects were arrested. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the suspects' motive and connection to the school.

Police said no one was hurt during the shooting, but as a precaution, additional school resource officers will be at the school on Wednesday. Rutherford County Schools Director Bill Spurlock issued a statement following the incident.

"We appreciate the swift action of the sheriff's deputies and La Vergne police to apprehend this juvenile and to keep our campus safe," said Spurlock.

The 15-year-old boy is charged with reckless endangerment and possession of a weapon while Hayes is charged with possession of a weapon. Hayes was booked into Rutherford County Adult Detention Center, and the younger teen was sent to the Juvenile Detention Center.
