After a record-breaking year in 2020, Tracy Lawrence is set to bring back his annual turkey fry and benefit concert for its 16th year to raise awareness for homelessness in Middle Tennessee and to support those in need.
Each year, Lawrence's Mission: Possible Turkey Fry cooks up thousands of meals for people in need on Thanksgiving outside the Nashville Rescue Mission, per FOX 17. A few days before the turkey fry, Lawrence and friends put on a guitar pull style benefit concert on November 23 at the Skydeck at Assembly Food Hall. This year's performers include Lawrence, Dustin Lynch, Michael Ray and Lainey Wilson.
Since its inception in 2006, the annual event has raised nearly $1 million for the Nashville Rescue Mission and has friend more than 6,400 turkeys to provide 93,000 meals to those in need in Middle Tennessee, the news outlet reports. Despite the pandemic, 2020's 15th annual turkey fry brought in a record for donations with $125,000 raised for the Rescue Mission.
"Every year I'm floored how people consistently help us outperform the previous year to serve more meals and raise more money for the homeless and hungry," he said after last year's event. "Honestly, we didn't expect much this year with the pandemic so to have a record-breaking year in raising more money for people that need it more than ever, I'm just blown away!"
