At least 19 people are missing after a deadly blast at an explosive manufacturing plant in Tennessee. The explosion happened this morning at Accurate Energetic Systems in the Bucksnort area, located about 50 miles west of Nashville. The plant specializes in producing military explosives.
Humphreys County Sheriff Chris Davis has confirmed there are fatalities, but was not ready yet to provide an exact number.
The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency is supporting local officials in Hickman and Humphreys counties. At the request of the local emergency management agencies, TEMA has deployed District Coordinators to support local response efforts.
Officials say they are actively coordinating with local, state, and federal partners to assess the situation and provide any necessary assistance.
Accurate Energetic Systems has established a Family Assistance Center and TEMA stands ready to assist the impacted families.
"My office has been in communication with local officials as we monitor the explosion that took place in Hickman County this morning," said Senator Bill Hagerty. "Our prayers are with those affected and the first responders on scene."
